What do I need to bring?

Whitewave provides all technical and safety equipment. For kayaking bring some layers (fleece is perfect) and swimming gear to wear under our wetsuits and some old light footwear that will probably get wet, a towel if you want to use the showers. If you are canoeing bring some waterproofs if you have them, and a change of clothes (just in case..!) For archery, crating, climbing and walking we ask people to bring waterproofs, warm clothing and strong footwear - dress for the weather. Mountain boarding, loose clothes that are ok if they get scuffed or grass stains..

Where is Whitewave?

The centre is 4 miles north of Uig on the A855. If you are travelling north we are on the right, go up the track to the car park by red shed and the small wind turbine. Grid reference is NG 388688. If you are using Sat Nav and our postcode, it might tell you have arrived about a mile before you have - don't leave the road but keep driving and you will see our windturbine and signs. Please see the Contact Us page for a Google map of our location on Skye.

How long are the sessions?

Generally our sessions are half a day starting either 9.30am or 2.00pm, actual time doing an activity is likely to be between 1½ and 2 hours as there is travel and gearing up time as well. Mountain Boarding and Archery are normally about 1 ½ hours.

Do I need to be able to swim to join a watersports session ?

No, we always wear buoyancy aids to help you float should you fall in.

Do you cancel activity sessions?

Not often as we have sheltered bits of water and small inland lochs we can use for water activities, and most land based activities can still be done in the rain (remember the adage no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing) but occasionally the weather would really make a session hard work, so we take your contact details so we can discuss options if things are looking a bit inclement.

Is there a minimum age for activities?

Less than 5 might be getting a bit small. If you have younger kids and tiny tots in your group it's best to discuss options with us. As an example we might suggest canoeing rather than kayaking so that wee ones can go with mum and dad or an instructor. We like to give youngsters a go at things but it has to work for everyone. Best to phone and chat.

What are wigwams?

Wigwams are great wooden sleeping cabins - camping without the hassle, often referred to as 'Glamping'. Bring your own bedding or sleeping bags. We have two units - one is en suite with a small kitchenette, shower and toilet and the other is a "Big Chief" or standard wigwam using the facilities in the outdoor centre. Checkout wigwamholidays.com.

How do I book and what about cancelling?

All activities have to be pre-booked, this can be done by email or phone. If you are already on holiday, mobile phone coverage is getting better on Skye. We have often taken bookings when all information and confirmation has been left on each others voice mails - answering machine ping pong... Payment is normally cheque or cash on the day, if you change your mind please let us know by phone then we aren't waiting for you.
